This women's day let's salute some of the the ordinary Indian women who despite having all odds, fought in an extra-ordinary manner and setting an example for others to follow -
1. Sunitha Krishnan (born 1972) is an Indian born social activist and co-founder of Prajwala, a non-governmental organization that saves, rehabilitates and re-integrates sex-trafficked victim girls into society main stream .Herself being raped by 8 men at the age of 15, physically assaulted 14 times and she receives regular death threats,she took the path to fight with this society, and became a role model of bravery and service to society.
2. Kabita Bhattarai - She setup an ashram in a remote area near the Bihar-Nepal border. Till date she has treated nearly half a million leprosy patients for free in her 240-bed leprosy hospital. She work to manage 21 leprosy colonies, providing free education to more than 1,000 children is being seen as a modern day Mother Teresa.
3.Sabbah Haji- In 2008 quit the comfort of her job in IT capital Bangalore to return to her native village, Breswana – a small place in Jammu & Kashmir. A commerce graduate from famous Bishop Cotton, Bangalore, spent couple of next few months setting up the Haji Public School. From initially two rooms of her father's home in 2009, the school today has its own building and nearly 200 children with her in this terror-prone part of Kashmir Sabbah is nurturing peace and hope.Sabbah promotes volunteerism through social media sites and invites teachers to teach at her school that has not seen any dropouts in the past five years.
4. Geeta Phogat - She is a female wrestler from India who won India's first ever gold medal in women's wrestling in the 55 kg freestyle category at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. It was not easy to enter game of wrestling, especially in male dominated society of Haryana , but after this performance, everybody is proud of her.
